andesite is a type of volcanic rock. The name andesite is taken from the name of the Andes mountains, a mountain range that stretches along the west coast of southern America.

With medium silica content, andesite usually has a characteristic gray color and fine grains. This andesite stone is formed when the cavities left by gas bubbles in hardened magma are filled.

Andesite erupts from volcanoes and is generally found adjacent to volcanic ash and tuff. Andesite is formed by cooling lava, therefore andesite is classified as a volcanic rock.
